Domaine Krug: a daring champagne born of daring

The House of Krug has a long history, dating back to 1843. More than 170 years and six generations later, this Champagne house is a model of its terroir. And yet, it's boldness that led to the birth of Krug champagnes: it was Johann-Joseph Krug who left a famous Champagne winemaker to pursue his own vision of the world. In fact, the Krugs are among the producers of the world's most prestigious cuvées. To this end, Krug wines boast over a hundred tastings and nearly 150 reserve wines, some of which are over twenty years old.

Spread over some 250 plots, Krug's grape varieties are 3: pinot meunier, pinot noir and chardonnay. It's worth noting that the house produces not only whites, but also a Krug (Krug Rosé, in all simplicity). Aged in small oak barrels, Krug Grande Cuvée requires perfect cellaring skills. On the palate, Krug Grande Cuvée is simply inimitable. It's the cuvée for 20-year-olds, the one where critics are unanimous. Then there are other examples, like Clos du Mesnil, which is produced on 1.84 hectares, or Vintage, which is much younger.
